Watch: Dana White Reveals Deadline For Conor McGregor Return In Explosive New Interview

In the midst of a huge surge in interest in a Khabib Nurmagomedov Vs Conor McGregor bout, UFC President sat down with Yahoo Sports, Kevin Iole to discuss the ‘Notorious’ Irishman and the lightweight title picture.

After Khabib Nurmagomedov turned in one of the most dominant performances of 2017 at UFC 219 last weekend, all anyone seems to want to talk about is a potential match-up between the undefeated Russian and Conor McGregor.

However, there is a major obstacle that stands in the way of that fight getting made as Tony Ferguson currently holds the interim title, technically giving him first dibs at a shot at McGregor.

Discussing the rather complex situation and the lengthy negotiating standoff that seems to be unravelling between the Irish champion and the UFC, White explained how time is now McGregor’s enemy and if he is unwilling to commit to a title defence by March, the promotion will have no choice but to strip him.

“This is a game of time, you know what I mean? Time is your enemy in this sport… we can’t let this thing go on forever and not give other guy’s the opportunity…”

“If he [Conor] decides he doesn’t want to fight again for another however long, then that’s up to him. That’s his choice and his decision but, the belt has to move on…”

“As long as Conor is willing to fight by March, we could do Khabib versus Tony and then the winner fights Conor for the title,” White said. “Or, if Conor wants to sit out until next fall, then we’d have to make Khabib versus Tony for the title, not the interim title.”
