On Sunday, Ariel Helwani broke the news that UFC featherweight Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino and UFC strawweight Angela Magana had been involved in an altercation at the promotion’s Athlete Retreat in Las Vegas. The incident culminated in Justino striking Magana.
Shortly thereafter, another women’s strawweight, Bec Rawlings, claimed, via Twitter, to have a video of the incident, asking entertainment media outlet TMZ how much they were willing to pay for the footage.
On Monday, however, Fansided beat TMZ to the punch – pun very much intended.
It’s unclear whether the sports site purchased Rawlings’ clip or came across footage in some other way, but they did post a video of the incident to YouTube. Unfortunately, we don’t get a clear view of the punch, but the sound made by the connection can be heard very clearly, drawing oohs and aahs from those gathered around.
The aforementioned TMZ reported on Monday night that ‘Cyborg’ has been cited for misdemeanor battery stemming from the incident. MMAFighting later confirmed this with police public information officer Larry Hadfield.
According to a tweet posted by Justino shortly after the altercation, a number of “derogatory” comments that Magana made about her on social media provided her with the motivation to confront the strawweight fighter.
