Watch: Cris ‘Cyborg’ Goes To War With Two-Time Olympic Gold Medalist In Intense Sparring Session

Late last week, a flood of tweets from UFC star Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino and boxing star Claressa ‘T-Rex’ Shields confirmed that the pair would be working together ahead of Justino’s upcoming women’s featherweight title fight with Megan Anderson.

It wasn’t stated that the women would actually be trading blows with each other as part of this work, but it seemed highly likely that they would be.

Indeed, on Sunday night, both ‘Cyborg’ and Shields shared a video of a ‘sparring’ session that would put most professional boxing matches to shame in terms of sheer intensity.

“To the death! Nobody has to die, but today it was to the death!” wrote ‘Cyborg’ above the clip.

In the clip, Shields certainly seems to be landing the cleaner shots and doing the slicker work, but Justino’s strength and ferocity makes it very competitive.

‘Cyborg’ couldn’t get a much better sparring partner than Shields. The 22-year-old American won gold medals at both the London and Rio Olympic games competing in the middleweight division(165lbs). She turned professional in November of last year and has already notched three straight victories. Her most recent victory came just ten days ago, when she outpointed 4-1-1 Louisiana super-middleweight Sydney LeBlanc in Detroit.

Cyborg takes on Megan Anderson for the vacant UFC women’s featherweight title in Anaheim, California on July 29th.
