Roses are red, violets are blue, here’s a couple of gifts before I try to batter you.
The staredown between featherweights Rick Glenn and Phillipe Nover at the UFC 208 ceremonial weigh-ins on Friday night in Brooklyn was one of the least intense that you are ever likely to see. Glenn managed to muster his game face, but Nover sported a beaming grin and UFC president Dana White, positioned between the pair, was giggling like a schoolgirl.
Why all this joviality during a normally tense moment? Well, with Valentine’s Day just around the corner, Nover decided to present Glenn with a couple of rather strange gifts.
After Glenn stepped down from the scales, he was met with a balloon and a box of chocolates, both of which were heart-shaped. The 27-year-old American seemed genuinely taken aback, but after a couple seconds of consideration he handed the presents to the octagon girls standing directly behind him.
Once these featherweights are in the cage together, however, we doubt that there will be any shortage of intensity. Nover is in dire need of a win after suffering two straight defeats and, having lost in his promotional debut, Glenn will be looking to make a real impression in this his second outing.
