Joseph Duffy takes to the octagon tonight for the biggest fight of his MMA career to date, as he faces Dustin Poirier at UFC 195. The Donegal native was due to face the American at UFC Fight Night Dublin, but had to pull out due to concussion.
Nonetheless, there is major hype surrounding the fight, and Duffy has made some claims which will get fans even more excited.
He spoke of the support he receives from the Irish MMA fans, and how much it means to him.
“Hearing all the cheers, that’s what we do this for and that’s our reward.
“Irish fans get behind their own. I don’t think there’s another fan base in the world like them.
“My goal is to make the country proud.”
He did not beat around the bush when discussing his ambitions for 2016, and he only has one thing on his mind.
“I would like to think I will be looking at the lightweight title this time next year.”
If you are not excited enough for tonight’s fight, you will be after watching this promo video released by the UFC.
Duffy remains the last man to defeat current UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor, and it is widely accepted that the UFC are eager to see a rematch should Duffy build upon his promising start in the promotion.
