UFC women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate will make her first title defence against Amanda Nunes at UFC 200 this July, but the journey to this point has been far from easy.
Before the strap made its way to Tate’s waist, she faced former champion Holly Holm at UFC 196 this past March, her third shot at the title in as many years.
Behind on points against the New Mexico native, Tate managed to pull a submission win out of the bag late in the fifth round and end Holm’s reign as champion.
Holm did not receive an immediate rematch following her loss and will now face Valentina Shevchenko in the main event at UFC on Fox 20 next month.
Tate will face Nunes on the main card at UFC 200, taking place on July 9th at the brand new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
In anticipation of the landmark event, the Ultimate Fighting Championship has released its promotional “UFC 200 Free Fight” featuring Tate and Holm in one of the greatest woman’s bantamweight title fights in history.
