Conor McGregor is arguably one of the most universally loved sports stars in his own country, and a recent anecdote from the Dubliner perhaps shows just how far and wide his fame and popularity has spread in his homeland.
As part of a more in-depth Sports Illustrated documentary centred around the world-famous fighter, McGregor went into detail about the time he was stopped by the Gardaí (Irish police) whilst driving.
The Crumlin native explains he was concerned he was going to have to go to court or potentially get fined by the police officer in question, however things panned out just a little differently once the Garda realised who he was speaking to.
What transpired was more the reaction of a McGregor fan than that of a law enforcer, as the 27-year-old was asked by the policeman if he could sit in McGregor’s passenger and take a selfie with the UFC star.
As you can tell from the video below, the Irishman found the whole tale hilarious, quipping at the end of the video that he’s ‘like Batman’.
