Former UFC Welterweight champion Georges St.Pierre was filmed backstage bowing down to former PRIDE Heavyweight champion and MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko at Bellator 165.
After signing for Bellator at the SAP Center in San Jose, California, Emelianenko met and talked to Canadian MMA stars Georges St. Pierre and Rory MacDonald.
The trio took pictures and shook hands with each other but a beaming Georges St.Pierre extended his gratitude even further when he bowed down to a humbled and gracious Emelianenko.
Emelianenko will take on ex-UFC heavyweight Matt Mitrione in the main event of Bellator 172 as the Russian looks to put an end to Mitrione’s promising start within the promotion.
Bellator President Scott Coker said that the fight between the two is destined not to go the distance given both fighters rich history of knockouts.
“Matt Mitrione. You know that’s a guy that’s gonna bring it,” Coker told Submission Radio in November.
“Matt said something that night. He said, let’s just throw hammers and see what happens. And that’s exactly what’s gonna happen. This is not gonna be a fight that goes, dances for four or five rounds. This is gonna go (till the) end of the first round. Someone’s gonna hit somebody and then I think it’s gonna be over.”
Emelianenko will face Mitrione in the main event of Bellator 172 at the SAP Center in San Jose on February 18.
