With MMA gripping the nation more every day, young men and women are joining MMA gyms aspiring to be the next Conor McGregor. Of course, the dedication to training is one thing, making the transition to fighting in a cage in front of an audience is always a huge step.
Kumite III, along with other promotions such as Chaos, provide a great platform for amatuer fighters to make that transition into the cage. This past Sunday Kumite 3 held a show in Tullyglass House Hotel in Ballymena, hosting a slew of amateur MMA fighters from Northern Ireland.
In the Main Event Ross McCorriston got his hand raised in a unanimous decision over Alex Bediou to go 8-5 as an amateur. An exciting amateur prospect, Ross competed at the IMMAF European Open in November of last year, went 3-0 at that event over three days in Wolverhampton.
In one of the earlier bouts of the night Conan McCloskey, a debutant inside the cage had a very brief first outing, as he won via TKO after just 11 seconds.
“It’s just more for fun at the minute, if I turn pro I turn pro” – McCloskey joked in a post fight interview with MMA Combat TV.
The video itself which was shot by Lee Morrison at Slm Design, was created to inspire one of the fighters on the card, Ryan Thomas. Slm Design sponsor Ryan, who beat Dean Knight in the second last fight of the evening. We spoke to Lee about the video and the atmosphere he attempted to depict was “I can and I will”.
“He has come off a long losing streak to get that win, I wanted to capture that experience for him” – said Lee.
