The UFC Reveal Their Top Ten Newcomers Of 2015

With the last UFC event of 2015 now in the books, the promotion’s official website have released a list of the Top Ten Newcomers of 2015.

As one would expect, the Thomas Gerbasi penned list is made-up primarily of prospects who have yet to make a real impact at the highest level but look likely to do so in the coming years.

The person sitting atop the rankings, however, is an exception.

Holly Holm has already had a massive impact since arriving on the scene. Her dethroning of women’s bantamweight queen and global superstar Ronda Rousey means that she is likely to be included in many year-end lists over the coming weeks, but because her UFC debut only occurred in February 2015 it also made her a shoe in for the number one position in this category.

In second spot lies English welterweight Tom Breese. The Tristar fighter has had just two fights since joining the company, but he won both in impressive fashion. First he stopped Jorge Luiz Dutra Jr. in one round, and then he brutally pummeled Ireland’s Cathal Pendred to the same fate at UFC Dublin.

It should come as no surprise that Sage Northcutt also ranked highly – coming in third place. The young Texan lightweight has received a great deal of attention since signing with the UFC due to his superstar look and the manner in which he was discovered(on Dana White’s reality show Looking for a Fight). So far, though, he has backed up the hype inside the cage, scoring two wins inside the distance.

Had he made it into the octagon at UFC Dublin as scheduled and beaten Dustin Poirier, Joseph Duffy would likely have been higher on this list. Still, by knocking out Jake Lindsey inside a round and becoming the first man to submit Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Ivan Jorge the Donegal featherweight did enough to secure fourth place.

Rounding out the top five is Finish featherweight, Makwan Amirkhani. The 27-year-old made a dream debut when he utilized a flying knee and follow-up punches to dispatch Andy Ogle in just 8 seconds. Masio Fullen managed to last a shade longer when he took on Amirkhani in June, but succumbed to a rear-naked choke at the 1:41 mark.

Amirkhani has been looking for a new camp as of late and it looks as though he may land in Dublin at Straight Blast Gym.
