Ireland’s Aisling Daly has been added to the UFC’s October card at the 3 Arena in Dublin.
In many ways “Ais the Bash” was Ireland’s first true MMA star. Before Conor McGregor had even made his professional debut, his teammate was appearing on The Late Late Show. No Irish fighter had competed in the UFC at that point, but Aisling was already getting mainstream attention.
It is only fitting then that the trailblazing Dubliner gets her spot on the card.
The UFC made the hometown girl sweat it out, though. The show was filling up, and seemingly everyone in the promotion was campaigning for a chance to experience the famed Dublin atmosphere. Other local fighters, like Neil Seery and Paul Redmond were chasing a dream also.
Luckily for Daly the call came.
Ais told girlfightsmma.com about what this opportunity means to her. “It’s something I’ve dreamt about for a long time”, said the 15-6 strawweight, adding “I have never been so motivated”.
The veteran fighter, who featured on a recent series of The Ultimate Fighter reality show, will take on Ericka Almeida. The Brazilian is 7-1, but like Daly she is coming off a loss in her last fight, when she dropped a decision to Juliana de Lima Carneiro, in her UFC debut.
It is an interesting bout with both women possessing slick submission skills. Eight of Daly’s fifteen wins have come by way of submission, while six of Almeida’s seven came via tapout. Neither has ever been submitted.
With all the local interest on this card there are going to be a lot of hoarse Irish MMA fans in the capital the morning after the big show.
For those of you unfamiliar with the talents of the first lady of Irish MMA here is a little taste of what you might see on October 24th.
