Following the release of high-ranking individuals within the UFC earlier this week, the promotion has now turned its attention to the fighters and they haven’t held back.
In a lengthy list obtained by MMA Fighting, 13 fighters received the dreaded phone call and former heavyweight contender Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva (first reported by Globo) and The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America 2 runner-up Enrique Marin found themselves among the casualties.
Considered one of the best heavyweights in the game in his time, Silva has won only once in his last 8 fights, suffering six knockouts and one win overturned due to elevated levels of testosterone. According to the report by Globo, the Brazilian is already looking for fights elsewhere, with Fedor Emelianenko named among possible opponents.

The sudden cutbacks come in the wake of the promotion’s sale to WME-IMG this past July, with Canadian executive Tom Wright, UFC Vice President of Public Relations Dave Sholler, and official matchmaker Joe Silva having left or planning to leave the organization.
Needless to say, the new owners have certainly left their mark and with no inclination when the cutbacks will end, anybody could be facing the chop.
