UFC: Chad Mendes And Frankie Edgar Agree To December 11th Clash

Chad Mendes will face Frankie Edgar on December 11th in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Yesterday, PunditArena reported that Edgar had been fielding fight requests from all angles in recent days. Highly regarded featherweights, Jeremy Stephens and Max Holloway, had both laid down challenges to the former lightweight champion. For his part, Edgar had been quick to inform the UFC brass that he was willing to fight either man, in December.

Then another big name featherweight contender entered into the mix.

Conor McGregor’s UFC 189 victim, Chad Mendes, took to twitter to let it be known that he was also ready to step in with “The Answer”.

With Mendes on board the UFC’s matchmakers didn’t waste any time putting this mouth-watering clash together. Last night, lancenet.com reported that both men have verbally agreed to the fight.

Though many would have hoped that this scrap would be added to UFC 194, it has instead been slotted in as the main event of The Ultimate Fighter 22 finale, which takes place the night before. The bout is more than worthy of a pay-per-view event, but there are already three huge fights slated for UFC 194, and the December 11th card was in need of a headline attraction.

It is not only a fantastic fight, but also an insurance policy for the UFC. They will now have two top featherweights in great shape and ready to fight, should one of the UFC 194 main event combatants have to withdraw for any reason.

For fans making the trip to Vegas, this is an unexpected and welcome bonus.
