Before the weigh-in of UFC 202, it was announced that the promotion would be returning to Ireland this year with a November card in Belfast. With a host of talent likely to be available for the night, the could be some high profile bouts.
It is almost certain that some fighters from John Kavanagh’s SBG stable will feature.
Among those will be Gunnar Nelson, according to reports. MMA Fighting are suggesting that the Icelandic-born welterweight is being lined up to fight Dong Hyun Kim to headline the card.
Currently at 12th in the 170lb rankings, Nelson was rocked after a UFC 194 defeat to Demian Maia. He recovered with a convincing victory over Albert Tumenov, and now will fight the South Korean who is ranked just ahead of him.
With such great competition at the top of welterweight and such a long queue for the title shot, the winner of this fight may be rewarded with a bout against a competitor biding his time for a crack at the champion.
This is certainly a fight that will please fans, and should be a big draw for the November card.
Others being suggested for the card include Joseph Duffy and Aisling Daly, although nothing has been confirmed.
