Twitter Reacts To Michael Bisping’s War With Dan Henderson At UFC 204

There was no fairytale ending for Dan Henderson on Sunday morning in Manchester, as the legendary American’s near twenty-year professional career concluded with a close but unanimous decision defeat to UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping.

Henderson got off to a great start in his third challenge for UFC gold, winning the first round on all three judges scorecards and the second on two cards. Many felt that the 46-year-old’s advantage should have been greater heading into the third stanza however. ‘Hendo’ dropped the champion with a big right-hand towards the end of the first and bloodied him during a fervent follow-up assault. It was an attack that may well have warranted a 10-8 score but not one judge saw it as such.

From the third on, Bisping began to take over with his busy, accurate and more technical striking game. This was enough to win him the final three rounds on each scorecard. The fifth was a close one though and caused much debate online.

The final scores read, 48-47, 48-47 and 49-46 all for Michael Bisping.

It wasn’t a particularly popular decision among Twitter’s MMA community…

Despite the fact that Henderson proved that he is still capable of competing at the highest level, the former PRIDE FC and Strikeforce champion maintained after the fight, as he had throughout the build-up, that his career was at an end.

Twitter was awash with tributes to the great man.
