Twitter: Eddie Alvarez Rips Conor McGregor Over Conditioning Routine

Over the last several months, UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez has made a habit of identifying his November opponent, Conor McGregor, as something of a sprinter who lacks the stamina and endurance of a championship fighter.

“This guy’s got eight minutes of fight in him and that’s it,” Alvarez said at the UFC 205 press conference in September. “He quits after eight minutes in every fight. He’s not a championship fighter. He’s never been. And he’s never ever fought anyone in the UFC like me. Ever.”

McGregor certainly began to struggle at around the eight-minute mark in his first fight with Nate Diaz back at UFC 196, but after apparently spending $300,000 on training camp ahead of the August rematch, McGregor managed to go five rounds with the indefatigable Stockton native and claimed a famous majority decision victory.

Alvarez, like some other observers, believes that McGregor still struggled desperately with his conditioning in the second fight however.

“He spent $300,000 on his last camp and gassed out eight minutes in,” said the former ‘Underground King’ later at the aforementioned presser.

It’s hardly surprising then that Alvarez chose to comment when McGregor posted a picture of himself training alongside conditioning advisor Dr. Julian Dalby to Instagram recently.

Alvarez has himself only been the five-round distance twice, but he ran out the victor on both those occasions. The only other time the Philadelphia native entered the championship rounds, he was submitted by Michael Chandler in the fourth round of a Bellator MMA lightweight title fight in November 2011.
