It looks set in stone. After the news broke this morning that Conor McGregor will take on Rafael Dos Anjos for the UFC lightweight title in March, the MMA universe has gone into meltdown.
This is being touted, and rightly so, as the biggest fight in the promotion’s history, as arguably the two most impressive fighters of 2015 face off.
This is a bold move by the UFC, pitting McGregor against such a dangerous opponent, as it is likely that they are lining the Irishman up for a defence of his featherweight crown at UFC 200 in the summer.
However, McGregor will remain confident, and he has given no reason to be doubted since he started in the promotion.
“Precision beats power, and timing beats speed.” – Conor McGregor
Since joining the UFC featherweight ranks, McGregor has been taking constant pops at the lightweight ‘stuck in the mud’ division. He has stated from the beginning that he is too powerful for 145lb fighters, and too quick for 155lb. Dos Anjos is certainly going to test this theory, as he is one of the fastest and most powerful pound-for-pound fighters around.
Dos Anjos’ power and take-down game will certainly test the Dubliner. While McGregor undoubtedly possesses the power and speed, it is uncertain if he has the all-round game to cope with the Brazilian.
Dos Anjos, 31, is a dangerous fighter for McGregor, and this video shows exactly why he is a UFC champion.
