UFC 207 just keeps getting more and more stacked.
The year end spectacular is headlined by the return to action of former women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and her attempt to wrest that title from current holder Amanda Nunes. On the undercard, there is a mouth-watering rematch of former heavyweight champions, as Fabricio Werdum battles Cain Velasquez, Dominick Cruz makes the second defence of his bantamweight title against Team Alpha Male wrecking ball Cody Garbrandt, and a there is a whole host of fun at 170lbs.
Though the card contains plenty to keep MMA fans happy well into the new year, UFC officials continue to add quality fights to the line-up.
A report from ESPN’s Brett Okamoto earlier this week suggested that a bout between former 135-pound titlist T.J Dillashaw and Brazilian bomber John Lineker was close to being finalized. On Wednesday’s edition of UFC Tonight(via Fox Sports), that fight was officially confirmed.
Dillashaw lost the bantamweight title to the aforementioned Dominick Cruz via split decision in January of this year, but he rebounded with a victory over previous conqueror Raphael Assuncao at UFC 200 in July.
Lineker has won six consecutive fights since a loss to Ali Bagautinov at flyweight back in February of 2014. During that stint he has accounted for the likes of Ian McCall, Michael McDonald and most recently John Dodson. After the latter victory, Lineker called for a shot at the title, but many feel his proclivity for missing weight should preclude him from receiving such an opportunity.
Nevertheless, should he make weight and beat Dillashaw at UFC 207, it seems likely that he will get a crack at the winner of Cruz vs Garbrandt. Likewise, if Dillashaw can pick up his second straight win, he will almost certainly be granted a shot at regaining the belt.
