Watch: SBG’s Will Fleury Divulges Entire Story Surrounding Controversial Reality Show Incident

Undefeated SBG Ireland middleweight prospect Will Fleury has provided further details about his experiences during filming for ‘The Fighter’ and the serious injustice that ended his competitive interest on the EFC reality show.

Fleury, who was 7-0 as an amateur and is 2-0 as a professional, flew out to Johannesburg a couple of months ago to compete against a host of other undefeated 185-pound prospects from around the globe for an EFC contract and a shot at the promotion’s middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis. He won his first fight but, as he revealed in a social media post on Monday, he was forced out of the competition in controversial circumstances following the abrupt, confusing and sickening ending to his second bout.

In the first round of a clash with Australian Shaw Dean, Fleury was bombarded with a brutal and illegal barrage of elbows to the back of the head as he tried to secure a takedown. For some reason, Fleury was allowed to take roughly ten of these strikes before the referee halted the action and took several more even after the official intervened. Commenting underneath footage of the incident shared by Fleury, SBG Ireland founder and head coach John Kavanagh labeled it, “The worst refereeing I’ve seen in 20 yrs.”

Unbelievably, the fight was declared a No Contest rather than a DQ, and Fleury was told he could no longer fight because he had suffered a concussion – something the Irish fighter says was never medically proven.

Appearing on the cracking Obviously Fight Talk podcast on Tuesday, Fleury spoke more extensively on the incident, the aftermath, his subsequent interactions with Dean, the referee, his dealings with EFC since the show, and his own fighting future.
