Rumours: An Insane Conor McGregor Fight Is About To Be Announced

Mixed martial artist Conor McGregor celebra

Well, you can take this one with a pinch of salt but, according to rumours circulating online, an incredible Conor McGregor fight will be announced in the coming hours.

Since Conor McGregor’s victory over Nate Diaz at UFC 202, the hottest question in the world of combat sports has circulated around what’s next for the Irish brawler.

Some suggest a featherweight title defence against Jose Aldo, others feel a lightweight fight against Champion Eddie Alvarez would be more appropriate. Some pundits have even continued to insist that a super fight with Floyd Mayweather may be on the cards.

However, although McGregor’s coach, John Kavanagh, has suggested that the ‘Notorious’s’ next opponent will be announced inside two weeks, some have now claimed that the UFC will confirm his next fight far sooner than that.

According to reports on and Kimura.SE, McGregor is now set to face former MMA great Georges St-Pierre at UFC 205 in New York. The website claim to have “sources close to the situation” inside Tristar Gym, where GSP trains and those very sources have reportedly informed them that the fight is made.

The website also claim that the titanic clash was initially due to take place at UFC 200. However, after Dos Anjos pulled out of UFC 196 and McGregor was subsequently defeated by Nate Diaz, those plans were thrown out the window.

Whether any truth lies behind this rumour or not seems somewhat doubtful however as UFC President Dana White only stated on Tuesday afternoon that GSP’s return was still someway off.

‘Georges St-Pierre coming back would be great but I don’t believe it. I’ll believe it when I see it. The guy’s been gone for like three years, he’s been talking about coming back for two years.

In this sport, I’ve got Robbie Lawler calling me every day, that kid wants to get back in there so bad. When you have that desire and that fire to fight… ya know I just don’t think that Georges St-Pierre is that guy anymore.’ – Dana White

This one cannot be confirmed or denied as of yet but, here at Pundit HQ, we’re certainly not holding our breath.
