Conor McGregor vs Nate Diaz 2 is far from a done deal.

teaser that ESPN released of their recent interview with Conor McGregor, due to air in full this Sunday, suggested that the Irishman’s dinner meeting with UFC brass on Wednesday went quite well.

It also indicated however, that there is still a long way to go before relations between the parties are completely back to normal following the dramatic UFC 200/McGregor retirement saga.

In the brief clip, the UFC featherweight champion revealed that, on the path to resolution, things are “Sitting in the middle, in a good place”.

What McGregor didn’t mention in the snippet, was the identity of his next opponent.

In the immediate aftermath of the aforementioned midweek liaison however, reliable sources claimed that a rematch between he and his March foil Nate Diaz was the fight being negotiated.

The fact that UFC president Dana White made his way to Stockton, California on Friday to meet Diaz, lent hefty support to such assertions.

But if reports emerging in the wake of that get-together are to be believed, appeasing McGregor won’t be the only struggle that the UFC faces in the delicate process of piecing together the massive UFC 196 sequel. As multiple sources have suggested that the meeting between White and Diaz did not end well.

Brett Okamoto of ESPN, sent out the following tweets on the matter.

While TMZ Sports also quoted White as saying that the meeting did not go smoothly.

“Obviously I’m not going to disclose details of the deal, but let’s just say my trip to Stockton didn’t go well,” White told the entertainment media outlet.

TMZ added that their sources at the scene reported that an initially friendly atmosphere had turned hostile very suddenly.

“Nate and a couple of suits were all friendly as they chowed down, but the talk got serious and ended abruptly when Dana was visibly angry, stood up and beelined it for his SUV,” wrote the website.
