Rafael dos Anjos Still Interested In Fighting Conor McGregor

UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos is purely focused on his upcoming title defense against Eddie Alvarez but featherweight champion Conor McGregor isn’t too far from his thoughts.

The 31-year-old was scheduled to defend his lightweight title against McGregor at UFC 196 in early March, but due to a foot injury the Brazilian was forced to withdraw from the event.

The Dublin-born fighter accepted a welterweight contest against Nate Diaz to stay on the card, which ended with “The Notorious” losing by submission via rear naked choke.

The unexpected jump to 170-pounds by McGregor may have spurred dos Anjos to seek success away from the lightweight division and told Combate(via the Daily Star) that facing McGregor or welterweight champion Robbie Lawler is a possibility down the line.

“In the future, I want to have super-fights. I want to go to the weight class above,” dos Anjos said. “It can be Conor or it can be anyone. I‘ve been wanting to have two belts , why not? This is something that already goes through my head. I fought in 77 kg and is something I will do in the future.”

McGregor was scheduled to face Diaz at UFC 200 this July, but UFC president Dana White pulled him from the card for not partaking in media obligations for the event.

White stated that McGregor could fight at UFC 201, 202, or 203, with a rematch with Diaz a strong possibility.

UFC Fight Night 90 takes place on July 7th at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
