Although Khabib Nurmagomedov recently admitted that he will likely face Tony Ferguson for an interim title in his next bout, the Russian is not leaving the Conor McGregor issue rest just yet.
Over the weekend, the MMA world was rocked by the news that Conor McGregor had been stripped of his featherweight title without having defended it once.
With many debating the legitimacy of the UFC’s decision, it seems that Khabib Nurmagomedov wants to make sure he isn’t getting left out of any headlines as he continues to feed off of the McGregor mania.
Speaking in a press conference in Russia recently, Nurmagomedov was asked if he would accept a fight with Tony Ferguson before facing McGregor. His answer was emphatic.
100%. There are already negotiations, 90 % sure it will happen. Why? Because Conor is pregnant, he has to give birth, and then recover until summer. I can’t wait until summer, I have missed out on 2 years of my career, I don’t want to miss out long periods of time again.
However, with the media still trying to digest the fact that McGregor’s featherweight title has been unceremoniously stripped, it seems Nurmagomedov wanted to remind everyone what division really matters with a post on his official Facebook page.
Although many have indeed suggested that the UFC will look to hold a big event in Russia next year, it would be somewhat bizarre to see McGregor staging his first title defence on enemy soil having not fought in Ireland since July 2014.
