Saturday night was a great one for Francisco Trinaldo.
The 38-year-old UFC lightweight extended his impressive winning-streak to seven and he did so in front of his hometown fans at the Ginasio Nilson Nelson in Brasilia – the venue for UFC Fight Night 95.
It wasn’t such a good night for his opponent, Paul Felder, however.
Not only was the momentum that Felder had gained with two straight wins brought to an end, he also suffered one of the nastiest cuts that this scribe has ever seen in any genre of combat sports.
A vicious elbow delivered by Trinaldo from inside Felder’s guard during the second round seemed to be the strike that initially opened the American’s brow and started the flow of claret. It wasn’t until the following round however, that the bout was waved off by referee Osiris Maia, who was acting on the advice of a ringside physician.
Viewing the fight on television, it was obvious that the cut was a bad one, but it wasn’t until UFC president Dana White posted the following grisly picture to Instagram that we learned the true severity of the injury.
