Paulie Malignaggi Issues ‘Winner Takes All’ Challenge To Conor McGregor

UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor looks set to return to octagon following his boxing adventures against Floyd Mayweather, a move which everyone expects and desires, all except for one person, Paulie Malignaggi.

The former two-weight boxing champion and one-time sparring partner of McGregor continues to speak long and loud about his disdain for the MMA star following his acrimonious departure from McGregor’s camp before the Irishman’s clash with Mayweather last weekend.

Upset by the release of sparring footage that saw McGregor ‘allegedly’ knock the American to the floor, the New Yorker had vociferously insisted any trip to the canvas was the result of a push by the UFC kingpin.

With the dust settling on the circus that was Floyd Mayweather versus Conor McGregor, fans of both codes are now looking to return to some sort of normality.

Speaking to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, however, Malignaggi has other ideas. The 36-year-old has revealed he wants a piece of McGregor in the boxing ring and has issued the Irishman a ‘winner takes all’ challenge.

“I’m all about it, man. I tell you, I’ll make it winner takes all. I’m willing to risk fighting him for free just to punch him in the mouth again and again and again. That’s how confident I am they can’t beat me.

“I would make it winner takes all just for the pleasure of sinking my fist back into his teeth again. That’s how confident I am.

“I think the fans want it and I think its a very sellable fight.”

With McGregor now set to sit out the next two months following a medical suspension as a result of his bout with Mayweather, plus with the clamour from MMA fans and UFC fighters for the Irishman’s return to the octagon, Malignaggi must be facing an uphill battle to secure his grudge fight with McGregor.

In the fight game, however, anything is possible. McGregor himself taught us that.
