With MMA fans around the world wondering who Conor McGregor will face in his next bout, it now looks as if all roads lead to a trilogy bout with Nate Diaz.
Speaking about Conor McGregor’s boxing debut with Floyd Mayweather on The MMA Hour, SBG striking coach Owen Roddy stated that a third bout with the Stockton man would be the fight he’d most like to see booked next.
“I’d like to see Diaz III and the reason I say Diaz is because the build up is exciting and those fights are so exciting.
“The back and forth, there’s nothing like it. It’s just a mad scene. The two fights against Diaz were probably the most exciting camps I’ve been a part of and to do that again would be unbelievable. The fans would like that over everything else.”
John Kavanagh echoed Roddy’s thoughts writing on The42 when he stated that the Diaz saga ‘needs to be put to bed’.
“I’ve said for a long time that the Nate Diaz trilogy fight at lightweight is what I’d personally like to see next. That still needs to be put to bed.”
Now, with the world waiting for McGregor himself to announce his intentions, bookies have already released odds for the bout with the Irishman listed as the clear favourite.
Dropping the numbers, Odds Shark reported the following;
“Lines have been posted periodically ever since Diaz vs McGregor II occurred at UFC 202. But following the spectacle that was MayMac, McGregor is on the board at -250 with Diaz coming back at +190 at online book Intertops.”
The odds translate as a McGregor win at just 2/5 while a Diaz victory in the trilogy bout is going off at almost 2/1 (19/10).
If it happens a third time…
