Britain’s double Olympic boxing champion Nicola Adams has rowed in firmly behind Floyd Mayweather ahead of his mega-fight with MMA supremo Conor McGregor on August 26.
The 2012 and 2016 flyweight gold medalist turned professional back in January and, in an interview with Sky Sports, predicts that Mayweather will ultimately knock out the UFC lightweight champion.
“I mean, I can see the interest. For me, Floyd Mayweather is going to win hands down.”
“I guess it’s just a show for everybody, a bit of a performance, a bit of entertainment. You don’t get to see a UFC Fighter boxing a real top class boxer.
“I know it’s going to be quite fun and entertaining, but I definitely see Floyd Mayweather winning by knockout.”
So while she will certainly be watching with interest next month, it appears, by her words, that she is not taking the whole spectacle too seriously.
When asked, however, if she saw herself besting McGregor, she responded without hesitation,
“Yeah definitely, in the boxing ring. I don’t know about in the octagon but in the boxing.”
The vast majority of the boxing fraternity has given the nod to Mayweather when he takes on McGregor. On paper the match up will see a 49-0 professional against a boxing debutant. The smart money must go on the boxer.
However, as McGregor has proven on more than one occasion in the octagon, you write him off at your peril.
