With fans starting to worry about Nick Diaz’s future in the UFC and whether or not the 33-year-old would ever return to the Octagon, Nick himself has finally stated that his comeback is near.
Having served an 18-month suspension for failing a drug test at UFC 183, Nick Diaz was recently cleared to make his return to the octagon. However, having been expected to make his comeback at UFC 209, some reports had suggested that the Stockton local had walked away from negotiations as he wasn’t happy with what the UFC were proposing.
However, speaking on on Jasta Radio, the elder Diaz brother has now stated that he will be returning to the octagon ‘pretty soon’, while he also suggested that the delay had nothing to do with money or his opponent.
“Right now, I’m trying to fix my situation,” Diaz said. “If someone offered me a fight right now, it’s not going to happen. I’m not going to say (yes). I’m like, ‘no.’
“I’m going to work my way into the right situation and once I’m there, then we can talk about a fight.”
Diaz was reportedly offered a championship bout against Tyron Woodley in the UFC 209 main event only to turn it down. Given his latest quotes, the suggestion seems to certainly be that Nick is focusing on his training until he feels ready to book a fight and make his much anticipated comeback.
