Michael Page Wants To See A ‘UFC v Bellator’ Show

Welterweight sensation Michael ‘Venom’ Page has said that he would like to see a cross-promotional MMA card featuring fighters from both the UFC and his current promotion, Bellator, squaring off against one another.

Bellator, the main rival promotion to North America’s MMA juggernaut, has grown exponentially in recent years and has signed a host of former UFC fighters such as Rory MacDonald, Phil Davis, Benson Henderson and Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson in the past 24 months alone.

Page is one of the promotion’s biggest indigenous stars and shot into the public eye earlier this year after a devastating knockout of Evangelista ‘Cyborg’ Santos at Bellator 158 in July.

The 29-year-old Londoner, who has finished five of his six fights in Bellator, recently told Jim Edwards of Flo Combat that he thinks both organisations could benefit from putting on a cross-promotional show and that it would be better for everyone involved in MMA.

“Friendly competition is good, and if the UFC and Bellator could somehow work together, and do joint bouts it would be incredible,” said Page.

“It would bring me back to those WWE days. Man, it was immense, I remember watching those shows and that changed the game for them. If the UFC and Bellator could just shake hands and work together on a few things then it would be better for the fighters, better for the fans and better for everyone. That’s that man–I’d be down with that.”

Bellator have previously partnered up with kickboxing giants GLORY to host hybrid martial arts events, so they are obviously open to such ideas. The UFC on the other hand have traditionally opposed co-promotional activity, something which has often hindered negotiations between the organisation and heavyweight legend Fedor Emelianenko. However, their willingness to cooperate with the WWE in order to secure the services of Brock Lesnar for UFC 200 suggests that things may have changed ever so slightly.
