Beneath that brash exterior and behind all the cutting, vitriolic trash-talk, Michael Bisping is actually a pretty swell guy…sometimes…kind of…we think.
The middleweight champion has been engaged in something of a war of words with former titleholder Chris Weidman, among others, in recent months. In one instance, the Englishman branded Weidman “a whiner” and a “douchebag”, while the American said that he found it “embarrassing” to tell people that Bisping is the 185-pound champion.
On Saturday night at Madison Square Garden, Weidman, a New Yorker, was knocked out by Yoel Romero at UFC 205. Given the level of animosity that existed between Bisping and Weidman, it wouldn’t have been surprising to hear the champion stick it to his rival.
But ‘The Count’ admirably chose not to kick a fallen Weidman and, instead, offered some nice words of consolation to the 32-year-old contender a couple of days later via Twitter.
@ChrisWeidmanUFC I know we had our differences but I was rooting for you against that cheat. All class in defeat, look 4ward 2 ur next bout

Credit where it’s due.
It should be noted though, and this is probably obvious from the tweet, that Bisping isn’t a fan of Romero either. The Cuban failed a drug test in the days after he defeated Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza last December. However, USADA later concluded that Romero had not knowingly consumed Ibutamoren, the substance detected in the sample he submitted, and that he had been the victim of a contaminated supplement.
Still, this hasn’t stopped Bisping from regularly branding the Olympic wrestling medallist a cheat.
