If you are like this writer, you might have found Mayweather Vs. McGregor – All Access a tad disappointing.
Considering the two personalities involved, it seemed that this incarnation of the wildly successful documentary series/Showtime promotional vehicle would be a guaranteed home run, but it fell a little short.
The epilogue, however, did not.
A 24-minute look back to the events of last Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, this is nothing short of epic. It provides everything from unseen backstage footage, corner audio and clips of the fighters’ families during the contest, all pieced together in a wonderful moving collage.
Perhaps the most poignant scene of the episode is one that unfolds in the McGregor changing room post-fight, when the Irishman is consoled by his family and friends. Speaking to Showtime’s Jim Gray after the fight and sinking whiskey at the post-fight presser, McGregor seemed to be taking the loss well. But this scene suggests that the ferociously determined competitor was indeed wounded by his defeat.
When UFC president Dana White, a man instrumental in bringing the fight together and with whom McGregor shared much of this surreal journey, approaches him, the fighter actually apologizes.
White refuses to accept, however.
