Conor McGregor V Floyd Mayweather Has Just Taken A Massive Step Closer To Reality

The world of MMA continues to reel from the news that UFC bosses have stripped Conor McGregor of his featherweight title but it now seems that ‘The Notorious’ is busy making new plans.

As Jose Aldo climbed up on his high horse following his promotion to featherweight title, McGregor remained ominously silent. It now appears that he has been busy exploring new pugilistic possibilities as it has been revealed that the Irishman has been granted a boxing license in the state of California.

It has long been rumoured that the former ‘double champion’ was keen to switch codes and take on Floyd Mayweather in a lucrative ‘super fight’, however until now, it has existed more in the realm of fantasy than reality.

A potential match up between the two has just taken a massive step forward with the announcement of the license for the UFC supremo and it appears that if a fight were to take place, it would be in a square ring rather than the octagon.

A straight up boxing contest would be an interesting proposition for McGregor as despite having started out in the code, it has been many years since his switch to MMA and facing off against one of the greatest ever boxers could well be one of his biggest ever challenges.

Mayweather is an ultra-defensive boxer, hiding behind an exceptional guard while throwing precision punches to pick off opponents. With larger, heavier gloves to contend with, fans will wonder if McGregor could negate Mayweather’s brilliance with his devastating left hand.

News of the newly minted license for McGregor is bound to set the rumour mill in motion and while Mayweather remains retired and seemingly uninterested in a fight with the heavy-handed Dubliner, one can’t help but think that there is something big coming for the worlds of MMA and boxing.
