This is Blaydes’ biggest fight to date in his young MMA career. The twenty-seven-year-old is coming off a win against MMA veteran Mark Hunt at UFC 221. After getting rocked early in the first round, he came back with two dominant showings in rounds two and three, using his impressive wrestling to come away with the win.
Blaydes is currently 9-1, with his only defeat coming against Francis Ngannou back in April 2016. Since then, ‘The Razor’ has put together a four-fight win streak and will look to continue his rise to the top when he faces Overeem in four month’s time.
Alistair Overeem took on Francis Ngannou last December at UFC 218, and we witnessed one of the most vicious knockouts in recent memory when Ngannou caught Overeem with a left that put the Dutchman out cold.
Prior to that bout, Overeem had put together a decent run of wins against Mark Hunt and Fabricio Werdum. A win here would definitely shoot the former K-1 World Grand Prix champion right back into title contention.
The UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic defends his belt against the UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier at UFC 226 in July. The winner of that bout may well be making their next defence against Overeem or Blaydes.
