Robbie Lawler will defend the UFC welterweight title against Tyron Woodley in the main event of UFC 201 on July 30th at the Philips Arena in Atlanta.
The fight had been in the works for quite a while and several MMAFighting reported on Tuesday that the fight was inching closer to reality.
Not long after that, made the fight official.

Woodley who is 15-3 as a professional, 5-2 in the UFC, is on a 2-fight win-streak but hasn’t fought since January of last year. He was supposed to take on Johny Hendricks at UFC 192 back in October, but the fight had to be scrapped after Hendricks was admitted to hospital due to the effects of an extreme weight-cut.
In the aftermath of this farce, Woodley was promised a title shot by the UFC and subsequently made the decision to remain inactive until that opportunity presented itself.
Lawler(27-10-1) will be making the 3rd defence of the title he won from the aforementioned Hendricks back in December of 2014. The “Ruthless” one last competed in January at UFC 195, when he scored a split decision win over Carlos Condit in an absolute war to retain his title.
It was Lawler’s 5th win in a row.
The other 2 fights confirmed for the event so far are:
Siyar Bahadurzada vs Claudio Silva
Damien Brown vs Cesar Arzamendia
