Luke Rockhold Showing Shades of McGregor, Blasts UFC 199 Promotional Poster

UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold isn’t one to complain, but following the release of the promotional poster for UFC 199 this week, the Santa Cruz native tore chunks into the UFC’s art department.

Rockhold is set to defend his middleweight crown against former holder Chris Weidman at the event, a rematch from their bloody affair at UFC 194 in December last year. The UFC has begun sharing its first marketing material for the June 4th show and one particular feature isn’t to  Rockhold’s liking.

The former Strikeforce champion took to his Twitter account to complain about a fist between himself and Weidman in the poster, it most likely belonging to the latter.

The outburst from Rockhold mirrors a similar situation involving current UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor and the original promotional poster for UFC 197.  McGregor blasted the UFC’s decision to not include his featherweight belt opposite lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos, who he was scheduled to face at the event.

Following the event change to UFC 196, due to injuries to heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez and Fabricio Werdum, the promotion had no choice but to revamp the poster, this time, including McGregor and his 145-pound belt and the tagline “Champion vs. Champion”.

Rockhold might not have the same sway as McGregor with the UFC brass, so don’t be surprised if the floating fist sticks around.

UFC 199 takes place on June 4th at The Forum in Inglewood, California. The co-main event on the night will feature UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz defending his belt against Urijah Faber.
