In recent days, a bout between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov has begun to look increasingly inevitable as the two MMA superstars have traded multiple blows on their official Twitter accounts.
Although Tony Ferguson is currently the Interim Lightweight champion, it seems as if the ‘Notorious’ one has far more interest in a fight with Khabib and it may just be that ‘El Cucuy’ will be forced to wait while McGregor and Nurmagomedov settle their evolving score.
One man who seems very excited about the UFC Champion’s interest in Khabib is MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani with the highly regarded MMA journalist celebrating McGregor’s first jibe at the Russian as soon as it was sent out.
However, it seems that Khabib’s manager wasn’t happy with Helwani’s tweet as he accused the journalist of riding the ‘McGregor wagon’ and warned him to get on board with Khabib before it was too late.
Khabib and Helwani had a famous interview in the build-up to UFC 205 as the Russian launched several accusations at the MMA Fighting journalist before eventually acknowledging that Helwani interviewed him for two years while the lightweight contender was out of action with injury.
As such, it seems Helwani has little to no interest in picking sides or riding any ‘wagon’ and his response to Khabib’s manager suggested as much.
