UFC lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov was apparently a special guest of Real Madrid at the Bernabeu over the weekend, as the Spanish giants also played host to Real Sociedad in La Liga.
The Russian, who is scheduled to challenge Tony Ferguson for a lightweight strap of a yet undefined status at UFC 223 in Brooklyn on April 7th, posted a video shot from his seat in the stadium during the game to Instagram on Saturday evening and thanked the club for the invitation.
“[Real Madrid] looking great tonight,” wrote Khabib. “Thanks [Real Madrid] for the invitation.”
Indeed, Madrid did look great, as they trounced Sociedad 5-2 thanks to goals from Lucas Leiva and Toni Kroos, as well as a hat-trick from Cristiano Ronaldo.
After the game, Nurmagomedov enjoyed a little meet and greet with the star man himself. ‘The Eagle’ even swapped gifts with Ronaldo, handing over a papakha, a traditional Dagestani hat that Nurmagomedov has made world famous, in exchange for a pair of Real Madrid jerseys – the one that Ronaldo wore against Sociedad and another with the name ‘Khabib’ emblazoned on the back.
“Great to see you champ,” wrote Nurmagomedov alongside one of the snaps that he uploaded to Instagram. “G.O.A.T. @cristiano.”
“Congratulations on your beautiful performance,” he added.
This isn’t the first time that Ronaldo has hung out with MMA royalty, as he was famously pictured alongside Conor McGregor, the Irishman’s coach, John Kavanagh, and his training partner, Dillon Danis, in 2016.
Of course, if Nurmagomedov beats Ferguson in April, a bout between he and McGregor will become a real possibility. Hopefully, poor Ronaldo won’t be too torn if that happens.
