A little over a week ago, former UFC middleweight and light-heavyweight title contender Chael Sonnen claimed that his sources in Brazil were expecting Jose Aldo to pull-out of his bout with Conor McGregor for a second time.
Sonnen’s claims, however, have since proven unfounded. Which is not exactly surprising given the ex-fighter’s constantly expanding reputation as an unreliable source.
In the aftermath of this chatter, though, it seems that Aldo has become somewhat paranoid. The long-reigning UFC featherweight champion told Combate that since these rumours emerged he and his team have been trying to uncover the identity of the “rat” within their midst.
“Every little thing we do in here, everyone talks about. I was actually chill about it, but Andre Pederneiras[Aldo’s coach] was stressed out. I try not to care about what people say. It’s actually good this happened, everything we do here in the gym, we hide. Sometimes I say I hurt something so guys can go and talk about it. That way we find out who the rat is.
If there is somebody leaking information from inside Nova Uniao, he or she is a brave soul. You don’t want to be labelled a snitch by a guy with the nickname “Scarface”.
Despite this little bit of drama, Aldo’s concentration remains fixed on his preparation for UFC 194, and the long-awaited clash with his Irish tormentor.
I try to remain relaxed and focused. That’s what’s important”, said the Brazilian.
He does’t have much longer to wait. And neither do we.
