Jose Aldo Returns To Hero’s Welcome In Brazil & Explains Title Scenario

When Jose Aldo touched down in Rio de Janeiro today, he could hardly have expected the welcome that awaited him…

After going a decade undefeated, Jose Aldo suffered an embarrassing 13 second knockout defeat at the hands of Conor McGregor at UFC 194. The loss clearly hit the former Brazilian champion on far more than a physical level as he seemed absolutely devastated in the aftermath of the ferocious knockout.

Crying in the Octagon itself, Aldo was later seen staring at the wall of his changing room for what seemed to be an eternity as he tried to wrap his head around the somewhat mortifying loss.

However, upon his return to Brazil today, it seems Aldo’s spirits were significantly lifted as he arrived to a welcome worthy of a victory rather than such a shocking defeat. After the hero’s welcome that he received Aldo’s camp used the positivity as a springboard to launch their campaign for an immediate rematch with the Notorious Irishman.

Posting on the Nova Uniao Instagram account, which is the Brazilian’s gym, Aldo’s team did not mince words when it came to their plans for the former champ.

Aldo also took time to speak to the press during his phenomenal welcome and declared that, if McGregor plans to move up to 155, he fully expects the Irishman to vacate the title and that he will then challenge Frankie Edgar for the belt.

What I’ve done in 10 years won’t be erased in 13 seconds. We win, lose, but learn in the defeat. We will be champion again soon. The next fight can be a rematch, so let’s stay focused.

I don’t know if it’s an immediate rematch or not. We’re talking. Conor wants to move up, he can’t make the weight anymore. Maybe he fights at lightweight. The next fight can be a title fight with Frankie Edgar.
