With only days remaining before Jose Aldo and Max Holloway battle it out for supremacy in the UFC’s featherweight division at UFC 212 in Rio de Janeiro, MMA journalist James Lynch has posted a video in which ten pros give their predictions for the hotly-anticipated bout.
The results of the mini poll are quite interesting, with seven fighters picking Holloway and only three picking Aldo, the man who for so long ruled the featherweight division with an iron fist. Even more interesting than that though, is the fact that a number of the fighters suggest that they feel this is a fight between a hungry young competitor who represents a new generation, the 25-year-old Holloway, and a man who has had his time at the top, the 30-year-old Aldo.
UFC lightweight Kevin Lee doesn’t make this argument but rather says that he believes Holloway’s versatility, the volume with which he throws strikes, and his size will be too much for Aldo. On the latter point, Lee claims that Holloway is actually bigger than he is, adding that the 5 foot 10 inch Hawaiian walks around at 180lbs.
Among the dissenting voices is that of undefeated young UFC lightweight prospect Jeremy Kennedy, who makes the point that he feels Aldo is being underestimated these days all “because of 13 seconds” in Las Vegas in December of 2015.
Jose Aldo vs Max Holloway takes place this Saturday night, June 3rd, at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio.
