John Kavanagh: Tyron Woodley Is No Challenge For Conor McGregor

John Kavanagh firmly believes Conor McGregor can become the first man to hold UFC championships in three different weight classes.

The SBG Ireland chief was recently in the land Down Under doing a promotional tour with various media outlets and during a recent interview/Q & A in Sydney, Kavanagh was asked how does he see a potential welterweight title fight with Tyron ‘The Chosen One’ Woodley going down. The first ever Irish Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt unsurprisingly gave a positive response that displayed just how confident he is in his star pupil.

“I’d fancy him in there with Woodley. He’s just another wrestler with an over hand right, and that’s the type Conor grew up knocking out. So, I wouldn’t see a massive challenge in that.” via dailstar.co.uk

It’s safe to say that there is some truth to what Kavanagh is saying. When one looks back through McGregor’s previous opponents, there are certainly similarities to Woodley in Chad Mendes and Eddie Alvarez, both predominant wrestlers who fell victim to McGregor’s deadly left hand.

In the lead up to McGregor’s lightweight title fight against Alvarez, the Irish superstar had multiple altercations backstage with Woodley, perhaps planting the seeds for a future title shot upon his return.

Kavanagh also feels that another of his star protégés is destined for welterweight glory. He added that It is only a matter of time before grappling master Gunnar Nelson has gold around his waist,

“I would like to see him get that belt. Gunnar Nelson will be the next SBG champion”.
