Coach John Kavanagh sat down with Ariel Helwani this evening to discuss Conor McGregor’s phenomenal victory over Nate Diaz at UFC 202.
Kavanagh couldn’t seem to wipe the smile off his face for the entire interview as he openly admitted that he could ‘talk about that fight all night’.
However, aside from basking in what was admittedly an incredible performance from McGregor, Kavanagh did discuss the future and how he sees the ‘Notorious’ moving forward.
Speaking about the potential opponents that McGregor could possibly choose from, Kavanagh stated that although the eventual decision would be made by the featherweight champion, he was happy to reveal the scenario that he himself would like to see unfolding.
Kavanagh first admitted that he did not want to see McGregor back at 145 and also confirmed that they are done with the welterweight division. He went on to say that 155 was ‘ideal’ for Conor’s body type and that he already knows which two opponents he’d like the ‘Notorious’ fighter to take on next.
‘I think it would be nice for him to be the champion, get the belt at 155 (against Alvarez) and then defend it against Nate.
I think that would be a pretty amazing fight, maybe in Croke Park in Dublin. I’d push for that. How cool would that be huh?’
