John Kavanagh Pulls Brilliant But Cruel April Fools Prank On Twitter Followers

Many people who opened their Twitter feeds this morning will have taken a very sudden, sharp and deep breath when they saw one particular tweet from SBG Ireland head coach John Kavanagh.

The date probably dawned on most of those people shortly thereafter.

Today is the 1st of April, also known as April Fool’s Day, and Kavanagh, who likes to have his fun on social media, decided that it was the perfect time to announce that the much-discussed Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather bout has been “confirmed”.

Oh, Coach Kavanagh, you scallywag.

If you didn’t realize that McGregor’s esteemed trainer was merely having a timely laugh, the tweet that followed minutes later likely caused the ball to drop.

The reaction among Kavanagh’s followers was a mixed bag, with some admitting their gullibility and others claiming to have seen straight through it.

This isn’t actually the first time that Kavanagh has tried to pull one over on his Twitter followers on this date, as last year, shortly after it had been announced that McGregor vs Nate Diaz 2 was set to headline UFC 200, the Dubliner suggested that Diaz had withdrawn from the fight.

Of course, in the end, that fight did temporarily collapse, when McGregor entered something of a stand-off with the UFC. ‘The Notorious’ one was pulled from the massive July card but his rematch we Diaz was later rescheduled for UFC 202 in August.
