UFC Vet Joe Lauzon Leaves Teammate With Ruptured Testicle After Training Mishap

UFC lightweight Joe Lauzon is a real ball-buster, just ask his teammate Devin Powell.

On Tuesday, Powell posted a picture of himself to Instagram on a hospital bed. Though it was obvious something was wrong because of the setting of the snap, the New Hampshire fighter’s smile and double thumbs-up didn’t at all prepare one for the harrowing details that he was about to provide below.

Apparently, while practicing grounded knees, Lauzon missed his intended target and ended up doing serious damage to one of the Powell family jewels.

“Thanks to the fine ambulatory services in Wells, ME, I am checked into the hospital and ready for surgery,” wrote Powell. “Shout out to [Joe Lauzon] we’ve been practicing knees on the ground and he successfully ruptured my testicle with his sheer power. His opponent has no chance in April … now to get the blood clot drained and the goods repaired. I waited a day and a half to be seen.. word for the wise, if you hurt yourself, go get checked out.”

Admirably, Powell used what was obviously going to be one of his most shared posts ever as a platform to campaign for a fight.

“[Dana White], [Sean Shelby] how about an NY UFC fight coming up… this will be quite the comeback story. Share this and help me get the ball rolling on my next Fight and follow my journey… pun intended.”

That’s testicular fortitude for you, right there, folks.

Lauzon, a 12-year, 25-fight veteran of the UFC, didn’t attempt to deny the charges levelled against him.

A few hours later, Powell provided an update. The tough SOB was still smiling and talking about his next scrap. He also took the opportunity to plug a fight-wear company that specializes in groin protection equipment.

“Surgery was a success, now on to recovery,” wrote Powell. “Can’t wait to get back in the UFC cage, this will be the first time since my last fight that I will be forced to rest my whole body for multiple days in a row. I will come back stronger than ever, I wasn’t expecting this curveball but I’m going to hit my recovery right out of the park. I wear [Diamond MMA] every Single fight and they are the absolute best in the business, I might need to start using them even when I grapple.”

Powell(8-3), who is, like Lauzon, a lightweight, made his UFC debut in January of last year, dropping a unanimous decision to the talented Drakkar Klose. He followed that up with a split decision defeat to Darrell Horcher in June and he hasn’t fought since. Hopefully, Dana White and Sean Shelby will show him some compassion and give him one more shot in the octagon.

One gets the feeling that the mats will become a rather lonely place for Lauzon after this mishap.
