Although James Gallagher has been getting some stick of late with fans claiming that he is a ‘Conor McGregor wanna be’, there is no doubt that the young ‘Strabanimal’ has fought to get to where he is.
At just 20 years of age, James Gallagher put in a breathtaking performance at Bellator 180 in Madison Square Garden on Saturday night stopping Chinzo Machida in the very first round.
After the bout, with a 7-0 professional MMA record, countless members of the media announced that Gallagher now looks set to become a legitimate star in the world of mixed martial arts.
To those who claim that Gallagher is a ‘wanna be’ McGregor, it might be worth noting that the Bellator fighter has been training in the vicinity of the biggest star in the history of MMA since he was just 13 years old.
With this in mind, it is most likely the case that some of McGregor’s mannerisms may have rubbed off on a young and impressionable fighter rather than any conscious decision being taken to imitate the ‘Notorious’ one.
After Gallagher’s win in New York this weekend, McGregor sent a heartfelt congratulatory tweet in the direction of his SBG teammate while The Mac Life also released an incredible clip of the two stars from way back in 2013.
Atta boy Jimmy boy!! Smooth work @StrabanimalMMA

At the time the footage was filmed, McGregor had just made his UFC debut while Gallagher was a 16-year-old in training. Four years later and one has booked a bout with Floyd Mayweather while the other just had a first round win in Madison Square Garden.
