UFC 205 Main Card Fight Has Just Been Cancelled

With just over 24 hours remaining until UFC 205 finally kicks off in New York, the MMA world has been rocked by the news that Cowboy Cerrone’s Welterweight clash with Kelvin Gastelum has been cancelled.

Cowboy was initially scheduled to fight former welterweight champion Robbie Lawler at Madison Square Garden on November the 12th. However, Lawler withdrew from the fight apparently claiming that he wanted to take some more time off after his surprise loss to Tyron Woodley at UFC 201.

Instead, the news was confirmed that Cerrone would face Gastelum (12-2) who had only recently sprung up to #5 in the UFC’s welterweight rankings after defeating Johny Hendricks at UFC 200.

However, the fighter has now confirmed that he also has had to pull out of the UFC’s first New York event with MMA Junkie reporting on the incident as follows;

Gastelum didn’t formally weigh in at the early and official weigh-in ceremony. However, when Cerrone first showed up at the hosting New York City hotel, he told reporters that he heard Gastelum was expected to miss weight and that the fight would likely be pulled from the card.

Gastelum then confirmed the news on his official Twitter account with a string of posts.
