Date And Venue Finally Set For Michael Bisping Vs Georges St-Pierre

So after much speculation and discussion, Bisping vs GSP is on.

The past few months have seen this bout go from on to off to on again but, finally, Michael Bisping vs Georges St-Pierre is fixed in writing for UFC 217. The event will take place at Madison Square Garden, New York on November 4. Given the Conor McGregor-sized hole in the UFC’s PPV pulling power this year, the return of “Rush” could not come at a better time. St-Pierre took to his Instagram page to announce that he had signed the contract, officially.

MMAFighting journalist Ariel Helwani had previously reported that the bout was being targeted for UFC 217.

Bisping vs. St-Pierre was announced, unofficially, earlier in the year, but was later postponed after the Canadian dealt with eye problems. Then Dana White dangled the GSP return bout in front of the winner of Tyron Woodley and Demian Maia at UFC 214. Given the disappointing nature of Woodley’s (successful) performance, White reverted back to his initial plan and handed the fight to Bisping.

St-Pierre (25-2) has not been seen in the octagon since 2013, when he defeated Johny Hendricks for his 12th win in a row. Already a consensus all time great, St-Pierre could further add to his legacy by adding a belt at another weight class. He also has a chance to equal “The Count’s” record for UFC wins, which stands at 20.

Bisping (30-7) meanwhile, will look to add a second title defence to his resume, having defeated Dan Henderson at UFC 204 last October, when he faces off with the Canadian superstar.
