Earlier in the week it emerged that SBG Ireland’s Aisling Daly had been forced out of an intriguing strawweight bout with former Invicta FC atomweight champion Michelle Waterson, which was scheduled for September 3rd at UFC Fight Night 93 in Hamburg.
‘Ais the Bash’ had apparently suffered a knee-injury and thus the UFC were left with the task of finding a replacement opponent for Waterson on short notice. However, it now appears as though they will no longer have to do so, as the ‘Karate Hottie’ is unlikely to compete either.
On Saturday, Waterson posted the following x-ray photo to her Instagram account, indicating that she had broken a finger.
FU%* ……….. so this happened on Thursday morning. The fact that I’m so close to the fight and this shit happened just really pisses me off. I know my will is being tested, and I will push forward. My fight has definitely not been fought in the cage this last year, trust me when I say I will be better for it all……. but Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh. That is all
This is just the latest in a series of frustrating setbacks for the Jackson-Wink fighter, who hasn’t competed since her successful UFC debut last July.
Waterson was forced to withdraw from a December bout with Tecia Torres due to knee trouble and then, seemingly on the verge of a return, she suffered a hand injury in February.
Though the card has lost two big stars in Daly and Waterson, the line-up still looks pretty strong. The headline attraction is a battle between two heavyweight legends and former UFC champions, with Josh Barnett taking on Andrei Arlovski. The event will also feature a pair of interesting light-heavyweight bouts, pitting Ilir Latifi against Ryan Bader and Alexander Gustafsson against Jan Blachowicz,
