Gunnar Nelson’s Next Fight Has Been Announced And It’s Another Tough One

It has been announced that SBG fighter and honorary Irishman Gunnar Nelson will take on the highly-touted Albert Tumenov at UFC Fight Night: Rotterdam on May 8th.

Nelson will hope to recover from his disappointing unanimous decision loss at UFC 194, when he was thoroughly out-grappled by Brazilian Demian Maia, as he takes on the Russian knockout artist.

The Icelandic fighter, who currently holds a 4-2 UFC record, would shoot himself back up the rankings with a win over the division’s #15 ranked fighter, but it won’t be easy as the 24-year-old is one of the most promising prospects in the promotion.

Tumenov is on a 5-fight winning streak in the UFC and is coming off a split decision victory over Lorenz Larkin. The 15-2 “Einstein” will be looking to utilise his excellent kickboxing against Nelson and add to the 11 stoppages that he has earned in his career so far.

The following fights have now been confirmed to take place at UFC Fight Night: Rotterdam on May 8th.

Heavyweight: Alistair Overeem vs. Andrei Arlovski
Welterweight: Gunnar Nelson vs. Albert Tumenov
Heavyweight: Stefan Struve vs. Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva
Welterweight: Dominic Waters vs. Peter Sobotta
Lightweight: Chris Wade vs. Rashid Magomedov
