This is going to be huge for Irish and British MMA fans…
SBG Ireland head coach John Kavanagh has confirmed that Gunnar Nelson has been offered to fight Darren Till in the main event of the upcoming UFC London card.
The UFC hits the United Kingdom capital again on March 17 and although we await official bout confirmation, this is one that all fight fans will be looking forward to immensely.
Till established himself as one of the hottest prospects on the entire UFC roster with his dominant first-round knockout of Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone in his latest outing at UFC Gdansk in October.
Nelson is coming off the back of a disappointing first-round KO defeat at the hands of Santiago Ponzinibbio at UFC Fight Night 113 in Glasgow, although that result is marred in controversy on a count of the eye-pokes Gunni was on the receiving end of throughout the scrap.
This matchup represents the perfect opportunity for the Icelandic native to get his record back on track and reposition himself in the win column again. On the other hand, another impressive display and W for the brash, straight talking Till could shoot him all the way straight into title contention by the end of 2018.
Kavanagh announced the news on Twitter:
So @ufc have offered @GunniNelson v @darrentill2 main event #UFCLondon we've agreed so hoping to hear confirmation soon 🤜how do you guys like the match up? I'm reminded of the Thatch fight, big strong striker but I think Till is tougher challenge. One way to find out… pic.twitter.com/b7U81FpzBf
